On the latest Guinean coup.

Ordinary people jubilate at the announcement of every military takeover until the military “militarizes” the society. When another military coup topples that one, the same jubilation will repeat itself. I have concluded that ordinary people might never learn how impossible it is for a military regime to change a complex society. Alpha Condé failed in leadership and one can say the coup was in the offing. Guinea suffered under his reign. However, it would amount to misfortune if the military refuses to leave politics.
